Vivid Money

Bitcoin-Check: this program is ranked in our database but not fully listed — this page answers whether it is a real bitcoin card and what happens to your BTC.

BTC via in-app conversion

Vivid's consumer crypto card is alive and regulated: free-first physical Visa, 300+ coins from EUR 1 under a Dutch AFM MiCAR CASP licence (custody via Copper), 2% default crypto trading fee and plan-capped cashback. The B2B pivot is real but the personal product demonstrably operates - with a documented 2026 freeze/support complaint pattern typical of partner-rail neobanks.

Top-up chargeback fee EUR 30.

The honest answer

Overview

Vivid Money is not a real bitcoin card - it does not allow direct on-chain BTC top-ups. You can buy bitcoin through its app using EUR, but that purchase triggers an immediate conversion, selling your funds into fiat behind the scenes. It’s a custodial neobank offering a virtual Visa debit card, regulated under MiCAR in the Netherlands, aimed at EEA users who want crypto exposure alongside cashback and multi-IBAN pockets. The bitcoin flow is broken: you’re buying and spending via conversion, not holding or moving BTC directly.

Fees in practice

There are no monthly fees for the Standard plan if you meet activity requirements (otherwise EUR 4.90/month); Plus costs EUR 6.90, Prime from EUR 7.90. The first physical card is free; additional physical cards cost EUR 19.90, virtual cards EUR 1 (free on Plus/Prime), and extra cards EUR 0.90/month. Top-ups from EEA debit cards are free up to EUR 200 (Standard), EUR 500 (Plus), or EUR 1,000 (Prime) per month - above that, 1% (min EUR 0.49); all other card top-ups cost 3%. Foreign exchange fees are 1% for non-EUR card transactions. ATM withdrawals are free up to EUR 200/500/1,000 by plan (only for withdrawals of EUR 50 or more); beyond that, 3% (min EUR 1). For a EUR 100 top-up using a non-EEA card: fee is 3% = EUR 3.00. Inactivity fees apply only to inactive Standard accounts (EUR 4.90/month).

Verdict

Avoid if you want a true bitcoin spending experience - Vivid breaks the bitcoin flow by requiring conversion and offers no direct BTC loading. It may suit EEA-based users who want regulated crypto access, cashback, and multi-IBAN features, but the recurring account freeze complaints and lack of direct BTC control are serious drawbacks. Only consider if you accept custodial conversion and are comfortable with the operational risks.

The bitcoin flow

Bitcoin gets onto the card only through in-app purchase using EUR - there is no option to load BTC directly from your wallet or via Lightning. The exact moment your funds are sold is not documented, but since the card spends EUR and requires conversion to buy BTC, it is highly likely your bitcoin is sold at the time of purchase (if you're buying it) or when spent (if already held). This creates a taxable disposal event either way, as selling bitcoin is a taxable event in most jurisdictions. Spending happens in EUR, so any crypto balance must first be converted. Minimum investment is EUR 1, but this applies to buying crypto, not funding the card directly with BTC.

Rewards

Vivid offers up to 4% cashback, capped monthly at EUR 20 (Standard), EUR 50 (Plus), or EUR 100 (Prime), with Super Deals potentially raising the total to EUR 140. You choose up to 3 - 4 categories depending on plan. However, rewards are not paid in bitcoin or sats - they are linked to stock performance and distributed as stock rewards. There is no documented bitcoin-denominated cashback. The advertised cashback is real but comes with eligibility requirements: you must maintain a EUR 1,000 account balance or EUR 100 in holding assets on the last day of the prior month.

Custody & risk

Your funds are held in a custodial model under Vivid Money B.V., a Dutch Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) regulated by the AFM under MiCAR, with crypto custody via Copper. This provides a strong regulatory framework and asset segregation. However, the consumer product runs on an EMI (electronic money institution) model - your deposits are safeguarded but not covered by deposit insurance. External sources, including Reddit threads from 2026, document a recurring pattern of unexplained account freezes during transaction reviews, with chat-only support deflecting responsibility. The B2B pivot raises questions about long-term consumer focus. Data quality is reported, not verified, so a small test load is advisable before committing larger amounts.

Pros & cons

FAQ5 questions
Is this a real bitcoin card, and how does bitcoin get onto it?
No, this is not a real bitcoin card. You cannot load BTC directly - you buy bitcoin in-app using EUR, which triggers a conversion. Your bitcoin is likely sold at purchase or spend, breaking the bitcoin flow.
Is KYC required to use Vivid Money?
Yes, full KYC is required. You must complete identity verification to open an account and access services, including the card and crypto features.
What fees does Vivid charge in practice for card use?
Free first physical card; additional cards cost EUR 19.90. Top-ups free within monthly allowance (EUR 200 - 1,000 by plan from EEA debit cards), then 1%. Other card top-ups: 3%. ATM: free within allowance (EUR 200 - 1,000, min EUR 50 withdrawal), then 3% (min EUR 1). FX fee: 1%.
Does Vivid pay rewards in bitcoin or sats?
No. Cashback is up to 4%, but it’s paid as stock rewards linked to performance, not in bitcoin or sats. There is no documented BTC-denominated reward program.
Is Vivid Money safe and who holds my funds?
Your crypto is held by Vivid Money B.V., a MiCAR-licensed CASP in the Netherlands, with custody via Copper. But it’s an EMI, not a bank - funds are safeguarded, not insured. Reddit reports from 2026 show recurring account freezes and poor support, indicating operational risk.
