The honest answer

Overview

RedotPay is not a real bitcoin card in the way most holders want - you cannot load BTC directly onto the card, and when you top up with crypto, your bitcoin is converted via an in-app swap. The program, run by a Hong Kong-based crypto-native firm founded in 2023, offers Visa prepaid cards (physical and virtual) with Apple Pay and Google Pay support. It markets to APAC and global users, emphasizing stablecoin spending (USDT, USDC). The bitcoin flow breaks early: BTC is sold during conversion, triggering a taxable event, and rewards are not paid in sats.

Fees in practice

RedotPay charges a $10 fee for a virtual card and $100 for a physical card - both one-time and non-refundable. There are no monthly or annual fees. Top-ups with cryptocurrency are free, but a 1.00% “transaction fee” applies to crypto conversion. Spending in a non-default currency incurs a 1.20% FX fee. ATM withdrawals cost 2% (up to $10,000 monthly) and 3% beyond that. A $50 chargeback fee applies. For a $1,000 spend using BTC: you pay the 1.00% conversion fee ($10) plus any FX fee if applicable - say $12 total if foreign exchange is used.

Verdict

Do not load large amounts without verifying the current terms and issuer directly on RedotPay’s site. The card is not suitable for bitcoin holders who want to preserve their BTC exposure - it converts your bitcoin early and offers no sats-based rewards. It may serve stablecoin users in APAC who accept the custody risk and complex fee structure.

The bitcoin flow

Bitcoin gets onto the RedotPay card only through in-app conversion - you deposit BTC, and it’s immediately swapped into fiat or stablecoins to fund your balance. The exact moment your bitcoin is sold is not documented, but since loading requires conversion, it likely happens at the time of top-up, making that the tax moment in most jurisdictions. At the point of spending, the card draws from your funded balance in the card’s currency (USD or HKD). There is no Lightning Network support, and the minimum top-up amount is not documented.

Rewards

RedotPay does not offer cashback or rewards in bitcoin. The base card has no cashback - instead, it runs a points program where points can only be used in prize draws and cannot be cashed out. The optional RedotPay Pro subscription ($12.90/month) offers 3% cashback, but only on Apple Pay and Google Pay purchases, capped at $18/month, paid in non-withdrawable “USDs” credit that expires in 30 days.

Custody & risk

Your funds are held in a custodial account by RedotPay, a Hong Kong-based entity whose full regulatory status and issuing bank are not verified. The company claims MSB/TCSP/VASP licenses, but these have not been independently confirmed. External sources include a Reddit thread documenting frozen accounts with funds held, and another reporting payout delays. The site blocks automated verification (HTTP 403), meaning key details like terms and issuer remain difficult to confirm. Since the information has not been fully verified through independent access, a small test load is strongly advised before depositing significant funds.
