Bybit Card
Bitcoin-Check: this program is ranked in our database but not fully listed — this page answers whether it is a real bitcoin card and what happens to your BTC.
The most aggressive rewards among exchange cards: 2-10% USDT cashback tiers, auto-interest on the card balance and 100% rebates on popular subscriptions - but it requires full exchange KYC and is explicitly unavailable in the EEA, and the platform carries the memory of the 2025 mega-hack it survived.
The bitcoin flow
Source note
No top-up mechanism: the card has no own balance and deducts from the Funding Account and Flexible Easy Earn balances (idle USDT keeps earning interest while spendable). Fiat is deducted first; crypto shortfall auto-liquidates at the One-Click Sell rate plus the region's conversion fee (0.9% min $1 in APAC/AIFC/AU/BR). Payment priority default: USDT > USDC > GRAM > BTC > ETH > XRP, reorderable.
The honest answer
Overview
The Bybit Card is a real bitcoin card, but with a catch: it does not allow direct on-chain top-ups. Instead, you load it by spending from your exchange wallet, where bitcoin and other cryptos are converted at the time of purchase. Operated by the Dubai-based exchange Bybit (founded 2018), it’s a Mastercard debit card available in both virtual and physical forms. Bitcoin enters the flow when you spend, not when you load, and rewards are paid in USDT, not sats. It’s designed for non-EEA users who want aggressive cashback and are comfortable with full KYC.
Fees in practice
There are no issuance, monthly, or inactivity fees. Virtual cards are free; physical card availability varies. The real costs come at point of sale: a 0.9% crypto conversion fee (minimum $1) applies when spending crypto, plus FX fees that range from 1% to 7% depending on region - 2% in most APAC and AIFC areas. ATM withdrawals cost 2% after the first $100/month in many regions. For a purchase funded with BTC in Asia Pacific, you pay 0.9% plus 2% FX - but exact total cost depends on transaction size and region. Fee transparency is limited, and external users warn of additional FX spreads not reflected in headline rates.
Verdict
The Bybit Card delivers strong rewards and seamless exchange integration for non-EEA users comfortable with full KYC and custodial risk. It’s not ideal for bitcoin purists who want direct on-chain control, but it works as a high-cashback spending tool if you’re already using Bybit. Avoid if you’re in the EEA or want sats-based rewards.
The bitcoin flow
Bitcoin gets onto the card indirectly: when you make a purchase, the system pulls funds from your Bybit Funding Account or Flexible Easy Earn balance. If you have fiat, it spends that first. If you’re short, it auto-sells crypto - bitcoin included - at the time of transaction. This means your bitcoin is sold per transaction, triggering a taxable event each time you spend. There’s no direct Lightning or on-chain top-up; funding happens seamlessly from your exchange balance. Since conversion occurs at spend time, you retain exposure to price swings until the moment of sale.
Rewards
The card offers 2% to 10% cashback in USDT on everyday spending, scaling with monthly spend tiers, plus 100% rebates on subscriptions like Netflix, Spotify, and ChatGPT (up to a cap). New users can earn up to 110 USDT in their first 30 days. The EU version (bybit.eu) offers a base 1% with no cap, rising to 2 - 10% for VIPs. Rewards are paid in stablecoin, not bitcoin, so they don’t carry sats’ volatility - but also don’t offer direct exposure to BTC price appreciation.
Custody & risk
Your funds are held custodially by Bybit, an exchange based in Dubai with high operator confidence but a notable incident: in February 2025, it suffered a $1.4 billion ETH hack (attributed to Lazarus Group), though it covered losses and stayed operational. The card requires full exchange KYC, including proof of address. EEA users are served by a separate, regulated program (Harmoniie SAS, ACPR-licensed), but the global card excludes them. Reddit users report successful daily use, but there are warnings about virtual card fraud bypassing OTPs and hidden FX spreads during auto-conversion. Data quality is verified, but counterparty risk remains.
